Directional Dependency of Relative Permeability in Vugular Porous Medium: Experiment and Numerical Simulation

Carbonate reservoirs are a highly heterogeneous type of reservoir characterized by the presence large amount vugs and pores. During two-phase displacement, flow regime in might be gravity segregated. The distribution pattern fluid would accelerate water downward horizontal directions, meanwhile decelerating an upward direction, resulting different oil recovery ratio. This gives rise to question whether relative permeability should modeled as directional dependent vugular porous medium since it is usually treated isotropic quantity. In this study, via both experiment numerical simulation, we demonstrate that on angle between direction plane considered for estimation carbonate reservoirs. Using transmissibility-weighted upscaling method single-vug model, curves directions obtained simulation. A model also proposed.
